Jurisprudence Examination Print E-mail

The jurisprudence examination (JE) is a one-hour, "open book" exam covering the laws and rules governing the practice of architecture in Oregon.  The JE is taken online through this website with access by a user name and password.  The Board will provide you with this information so you may take the JE when you are eligible.  Study materials for Oregon's JE are available here: (OAR Chapter 806 & ORS Chapter 671).

Upon successfully passing the examination, applicants whose first architect license is in Oregon are required to appear before the Board for an oral interview.  Most reciprocity candidates will not be required to attend an oral interview; however, the Board reserves the right to require an oral interview of any candidate.  Those whose license has beeen inactive over five years will be required to attend an oral interview before being allowed to reinstate to active status.

If you are required to attend an oral interview, you will be given instructions and will need to confirm your attendance when you are scheduled.  You can click here to find directions and parking information for attending an oral interview with the Board.

Once the JE and oral interview processes are completed, candidates may pay the registration fee and become registered to practice architecture in Oregon.

Congratulations are in order for coming this far, but the practice of architecture involves continued learning. As a registered architect, you must obtain continuing education each renewal cycle in order to maintain an active license, and you must be familiar with the changing laws and rules governing the practice of architecture in Oregon.

Welcome to an exciting profession!
